Changes for the Garzas!!

For the last month and a half, or so, Roberto and I have really been looking at how we are living our lives and how we are spending our money. Are we living how God has called us to live? What changes need to take place to truly live a God-centered life? We came to the conclusion that we haven't been spending or saving our money how we should, and, basically, that we are selfish people. Thankfully, we are children of a forgiving, gracious God!
One of the ways that Roberto and I have been trying to change is by getting to know our neighbors, which started with our block party, and then we had some people over for lunch after church one day, and both neighbors we invited came!! I was really surprised. Our next door neighbors are really sweet, and now we say 'Hi!' every time we see each other. This is really out of our comfort zone, but we are feeling called to get to know people around us, and to be in community with them.
In order for us to save money, we canceled our gym membership. We have been working out at home, Rob built a pull-up bar, which I generally just hang from, since I have no upper-body strength, but I am working on it!! Soon I will be able to do a pull-up! We have also been jumping rope a lot. Another thing we did, brace yourself, was cancel cable!! So, tomorrow between 2-5pm, we will no longer have cable. (sigh...) I'm not gonna lie, I will miss cable terribly!! But, I know I will get over it. (Goodbye to the DVR, HGTV, E!, and TLC!!)You'd be surprised (or maybe not) to see how much stuff you can accomplish while not being glued to the TV!! I've already made a list of what needs to be done in all my spare time! Speaking of which, I have really gotten into organizing, you should see my pantry, it is amazing!!

morgan, its absolutely wonderful to hear about those with a desire to live a more godly life! it encourages me...ALSO, i have officially not had cable (nor any form of real television) since apx. July of 06 and I have not missed it...and have come to be somewhat annoyed with how much time is wasted by watching TV...anyways, just wanted to send out a 'thanks for the encouragement'! --liz h.

That's awesome, Morgan! I know that scaling down can be hard, esp. when the world is saying we should be getting/doing more (although not having cable will help to get more done).

Kudos on being neighbor friendly, it's not as easy as it sounds. That's something I wish I were better at, but if someone isn't very enthusiastic with their wave back at me, I usually don't try very hard the next time... see, not very good. :P
